10 Things in Tech You Need to Know Today

Technology is constantly evolving and changing to suit our needs and interests. From new devices and the latest apps to new ways of thinking about technology, there’s always something new to learn about. Wondering what tech-related stories have been making headlines lately?

Here are 10 things from the past few days that you need to know about. By staying current on all the latest trends and insights, you can be one step ahead of the curve.

1. The Metaverse Cometh

Unless you’ve been actively avoiding the news, chances are that you’ve heard of the Metaverse. This “new internet” is poised to forever change the way we work, play, interact with others, and live life on a day-to-day basis.

But will this concept take off and become mainstream? Time will tell what kind of impact the Metaverse has on society as a whole. There are certainly a lot of compelling things to come from the Metaverse. But we won’t know what kind of role it will ultimately play in people’s lives until it becomes the norm.

2. AI Is on the Rise

As we inch closer to an AI-dominated world, tech companies are racing to create the most advanced form of artificial intelligence possible. Already, we’re seeing robots take the place of people in numerous jobs—something not possible just a few years ago.

For better or worse, it seems many corporations are ignoring the potential implications of widespread AI in favour of affordable labour and better production.

3. Color-Changing Cars

BMW finally achieved the impossible. Like something from a spy movie, the auto manufacturer’s iX Flow has the ability to change its paint job on the fly. While its colour selections are limited to grayscale, the benefits of this are many. Imagine switching from black to white on a hot, muggy day to cool down your car’s interior.

4. The VR Revolution

Thanks in large part to the announcement of the Metaverse, Virtual Reality (VR) headsets are becoming more affordable for the mass public. And that’s the ultimate goal of these tech companies: To give everyone the opportunity to experience an alternate reality in the comfort of their own home.

5. Foldable Laptops

Asus recently announced its Zenbook 17 Fold. This massive OLED screen has the ability to fold in half like a book, marking a major milestone in technology.

6. 4K Projectors Have Arrived

It was only a matter of time; we now have handheld projectors capable of displaying 4K. Take your home movie experience to the next level with Anker’s Nebula Cosmos Laser, and enjoy movies in incredible definition.

7. Chip Shortages Still an Issue

Unfortunately, chip shortages are still an issue for many companies. From vehicles to computers, the supply chain for many essential components remains problematic. How will this affect the average consumer in the long run?

Unless this issue is rectified soon, we could start seeing a major decline in the sales of certain electronics.

8. Compatible Smart Homes

Some of the most prominent tech companies are actively working on a new standard for smart homes called “Matter.” Essentially, this technology ensures that all smart home components will work with one another, regardless of the brand. The concept is similar to the Plug-and-Play technology from years ago that (ideally) worked across various home computer platforms.

9. Improved Health Monitoring

Right now, we have tech that monitors things like heart rate. But that’s all about to change, as companies are looking for ways to drastically improve the capabilities of wearable health monitoring devices. The goal is to be able to provide medical insight on the fly to warn wearers of potential concerns.

10. Electric Cars Are Here to Stay

Some thought electric cars to be a fad, but it’s clear that they are here to stay. As per President Biden’s push for electric cars, the goal is for half of all vehicles sold to be electric by 2030. It’s ambitious, but it’s also something that is bound to happen eventually.

Whether by 2030 or 2050, you can rest assured that the days of petrol-powered vehicles are coming to a close. That means less pollution and cleaner air, among many other benefits.
