Why Hybrid cloud counts

Hybrid cloud often is the most logical cloud computing environment – the future that you need to embrace today. So what is hybrid cloud? Why should your company invest in it and how can PowerNET guide you in the process?

Hybrid cloud has well and truly arrived and has become mainstream: While some experts warned not to jump onto the new offers too early, we think it’s time to give you an idea about what you can do over the upcoming months to set your company up for the future. Hybrid cloud clearly is the future of business computing solutions and the next logical move for anyone investing in cloud services.

But first things first:

What is Hybrid Cloud?

Hybrid cloud uses a combination of on-premises, private cloud and third-party, public cloud services. It allows interaction between the platforms, so workloads can move between the two cloud computing environments. Whilst your private cloud is used by your company only, a public cloud has many users who all access the service – therefore lowering the cost.

What Are the Benefits?

Depending on your workload and data increase this combination of public and private cloud allows you to scale your usage up and down with demand. This means your project team can build and later decommission an environment in a matter of hours and days rather than the traditional weeks and months. And whilst doing this, you can constantly measure and control your usage – combining flexibility with the control of your data and applications. This means reduced capital expenditure, access to an unprecedented scale of resources and computing power and flexibility normally only afforded to large enterprises. It will require an increase in bandwidth but this will provide many other benefits to your business too.

When Does Hybrid Cloud Make Sense?

'Cloud bursting': In this case your private cloud storage might run out of capacity during a particular project, so you “burst the cloud” and move tasks over to the cloud to allow flexible increases of your usage.

Split system: Hybrid cloud allows you to split certain systems, which means you run certain components on premise, in a private cloud and others in the public cloud. For example the front-end element of a software or database system stays on your private cloud, whilst the back-end one moves onto the public one. Or: You keep the “hot data” on-premises, whilst moving “cold data” to the public cloud.

What Is PowerNET’s View on Hybrid Cloud?

In our view hybrid cloud should be part of your IT road map and will quickly become the norm for businesses in Australia. We use NextDC as our datacentre provider and work with infrastructure service partners to provide the best solution aligned with your business requirements.

So what happens at your end if you use PowerNET’s hybrid cloud?

1.     We connect your internal network back to the appropriate data centre (nationwide) using the best carrier available with appropriate bandwidth.

2.     With your private network connection we give you direct and private connection to your resources residing in the cloud. This means you use the same connection to access local resources as you do for cloud resources

3.     Now you’re connected to the cloud, you can add resources on demand and scale them to your immediate requirements, all for a monthly fee.
