How A Digital Culture Can Boost Your Bottom Line

If you’re not using technology in your business today, you could well be missing out on a wealth of opportunity. Transforming your business into a modern workplace will not only give it a new lease on life, but it will also help you take full advantage of a myriad tools out there built to help you succeed.

Businesses that are conducting day-to-day responsibilities and requirements in an analogue manner, will soon find themselves falling short. Think of these examples to help you understand the vast leap that digital business has made:

  • We check our emails on a daily basis, but did you ever consider what the alternatives were before email came along? Can anyone even imagine a world without email? Before email came fax. Before fax came the postal service, or if businesses needed to get something to someone sooner, a courier service. It is so far removed from anything we do today, and yet that was where we evolved from
  • Analogue phone systems are literally wired into a physical location, whereas a digital phone system can be managed using cloud computing and the support from your IT team. Any location changes on analogue systems need to be physically wired in and connected through a telecommunications specialist, whereas IT support can add a digital phone system location in a matter of minutes.

These are two small examples that expose a much bigger picture. If these integral elements of daily business have had to evolve to help businesses operate in a more streamlined manner, surely other aspects can offer these benefits too?

HOW TECHNOLOGY IS SHAPING BUSINESS IN 2018

Technology is a key component in aiding collaboration in the workplace, which in turn boosts productivity and thus enhances the flow of business. According to an article published by Deloitte, “The technology industry trends driving growth this year will include cloud computing; flexible consumption; cognitive computing; user-friendly tools, APIs, and apps; and data.”

Let’s look at each in a little more detail:

  • Cloud Computing: Cloud computing offers businesses the flexibility of being able to operate from anywhere. Getting your IT support team to focus on a changeover to cloud computing will not only help reduce costs, but also build in additional ways for you to expand your reach by giving employees tools for collaboration, project management and mapping out productivity.
  • Flexible Consumption: Cloud computing offers options for flexible consumption, which can also be translated as a “pay as you go” model. Again, cutting unnecessary costs, but also giving you options to connect new devices or employees as and when it is required.
  • Cognitive Computing: Also translated as machine learning, cognitive computing is giving businesses more options for customer support, data input and collection, while also picking up anomalies in large bundles of data.
  • User-friendly Tools, APIs and Apps: Gearing businesses up for customer satisfaction is that much easier with the use of user-friendly tools and apps. Such tools are effectively managing the tasks that could have previously been carried out by entire teams.
  • Data: An analogue business would not likely make use of data to learn about customers or find ways to enhance their business models. This is one of the largest areas for error, as how can you improve your service offering if you have nothing to base the changes on?

The use of technology is essential if your business is trying to compete for market share, but it doesn’t have to be a painstaking process. There is a constant increase in the availability of tools to help you transform to a digital business model that takes full advantage of cloud computing and productivity enhancements.
